How Do You Death Level A Phoenix?
Every time I flag a hero there and start death leveling, the phoenix gets stuck and stops attacking once it reaches level 12 or 13.
edit: This is not the Rainbow Phoenix, but the Imperial Phoenix. Also, sometimes it doesn't even attack. Last edited by Kagome; Mar 21, 2011 at 05:43 PM // 17:43.. |

start over with the higher level in the pen, less to get stuck on, less wander, and is warped back to center of the pen if it does have issues. put yourself at the gate. Im assuming you are trying to DL a level 5 out in the zone. |

The easiest way is to take 3 heroes with you (mesmers with fast cast maxed) and flesh of my flesh (I think that's the one they're supposed to use). Put them on do not attack and equip yourself with 5 superior runes and with a vampiric weapon in slot 1 and another weapon in slot 2. Start charming the Phoenix and when it turns hostile, break the charm. Now switch to your vampiric weapon and let yourself die. The Phoenix will get XP. Your heroes will rez you and your vampiric will kill you again. You'll be rezzed again and you'll die again. After about 15 minutes of this, the Phoenix will be level 20. Now you have to keep banging on F2 to switch to your non-vampiric weapon once you get rezzed. After you successfully rez without dying, charm the Phoenix.

Or just pay balthazar faction / coins to level and evolve it. Easy enough.

To death level an animal in the Menagerie, they just need to be hostile to you, they don't actually have to attack. They gain XP every time you die, so long as they are within range and are hostile.
As for which rez to use, do NOT use Flesh of my Flesh. It works best if you use a rez skill that will not fully rez you. So, once you get down to 1 Hp, from DP and runes, any rez skill that brings you back to less than 50% health will cause an immediate death. The best such skill to use is Restore Life on a fast casting mesmer with no investment into healing prayers. Its generally fastest to have several doing this in fact... you can be dying literally every 2 seconds and can do so while afk. I've leveled pets from lvl 3 to lvl 20 in ~20 minutes this way, but that was before the changes to fast casting, so the time might be a little different now. |

Oh so since the Phoenix can't attack you in the Menagerie, you have to have a vampiric weapon?

1 health point, vampiric weapon. You die as soon as you get ressed every single time. And then you have 2x or 3x mesmers ressing you insanely fast. Very quick death leveling

Yes, you have to kill yourself. Even though the phoenix didnt' attack, it will still get xp. It does take only about 20 minutes. I used two healers with some lame rez, forget which one. It works really fast and you don't have to use Baltharzar points which are better used on Zkeys in my opinion.

Im not sure here now though, but if I recall correctly. If you have heroes with you the Phoenix wont be there. So its impossible to death level?
They did that to prevent heroes charming phoenixes i think |

The best way to see how this method works is to youtube it. You can visualize it at the same time
Eaiest is to: Make a pvp necro with secondary ranger. You'll need Charm pet and BiP on your bar Also a vamp weapon and a +30hp weapon Take 3 heroes: Necro with Healing breeze, BiP, mending and the +1 energy regen chant. Those will be maintained on the 2 rezzers. Rezzers are 2 Me/Mo with 3 rezz skills: ressurection and some healing prayers rezzes. also elite is mantra of recovery for faster rez recharge. Put all heroes to avoid combat, make pet hostile by charming it, kill yourself with BiP/vamp weapon, flag heroes next to you and they'll rez you all the time. BiP hero is to keep the rezzes coming, healing breeze is the heal himself from BiP damage, Soul reaping will manage his energy fine. Again, if this is unclear, google/youtube it. I did it and was very clear when I saw it |

Here is a video with an explaination: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLDYKG0VPI4
Did it with my Paragon. I disabled the healing on the Necro, equip vampiric weapon and let yourself die while running to the pet. If multiple pets turn hostile, kill all but 1. (If you attack 1 flamingo, all the other flamingos turn hostile as well, which made this not work like it should) |

Contrary to what a lot of people seem to think, the vampiric weapon is completely unnecessary. If you health is at 1HP and you use a rez skill that rezzes you to less than 50% health, you will die immediately and never even have the chance to use any skill or let a vamp weapon take effect. All you need to do this is a sac skill and a way to get your health down to 1 (this can be done with runes and -X health offhands). The pet charming can be done by a hero and then turned in to the menagerie, so you don't have to take a ranger secondary or primary as long as you do take a hero set up to cap pets. This also allows you to potentially death lvl multiple pets at once and then cap them, assuming you can get them into the correct area of effect.
Honestly... I don't know why there's so much misinformation floating around here. The death/rez works on which the same principle that a 1HP BiP works. If you health is low enough, the game rounds percentages off to the nearest whole number. So if you are supposed to be rezzed to a health which is less than one, you'll be rezzed to 0 health and die immediately. |
